Sorry, extreme beginner question here.
I’ve installed and run OpenHAB2.2 as recommended. I added the Modbus binding. I have my serial RTU device connected via port COM11. I tested my connection to the device using Modbus polling software and I could read the data. I think that I properly set up the Modbus config file using exactly the same properties, so the config file should be fine. I have no idea where to go from here. I turned on simple mode for Item Linking. My device does not appear when I search for Things in Paper UI using the Network binding. Can you recommend a resources for me to read up on what to do next?
Modbus is a 1.x version binding. There is no support for Things or automatic discovery.
See the binding README for how to configure Items manually.
Or did you install modbus 2.x binding from marketplace?
Thanks for the quick response. I installed the Modbus 1.11 add-on, so I guess I should look to OH1 documentation for guidance instead of OH2.
Which version would you recommend I use? How far along is the Alpha testing of Modbus2.x? I’m an HVAC researcher and I need to poll modbus data from 12 ventilation units. I would like to use an OpenHABian setup for each unit. Does this seem like an impossible task for a beginner?
Thank you again for your help.
I’m suggesting version 2.x. Imho alpha state is long gone. I’ve been using it for months now without any problems. Configuration is a bit more complicated compared to 1.x binding but I’m sure you’ll get a hang of it as long as you read those docuentations with care. And the developer of the 2.x binding is very helpfull if you have any doubts.
