I found your thread when i was about to ask questions about the suitability of ibeacons with openhab. I looks like some people are using them for proximity.
I wanted to look at them for a cost effective distributed temperature sensor. You seem to be using an onyx beacon. Do these contain a temp sensor that could be read by a raspberry pi with a BT LE dongle?
No temp sensor in these, sorry
