Archived log files not readable (gz)

I‘m facing a strange behavior of my log files.
The log files events and openhab begin when the OpenHAB service is restarted. All archive versions with the GZ extension have a small size and are not in a nano-readable format, i.e. the file can be opened with nano, but the content is unreadable.
