Cant get Panasonic TV binding to work

I can see and control my Panasonic VT50 using an iphone application.

The openhab binding doesnt seem to work, i just get a blank screen when trying to search for the Thing. Im an running Openhab V2 on raspberry pi. The legacy v1 layer is activated.

I have tried installing and de-installing. The openhab.log show the following

2017-05-03 16:58:23.800 [DEBUG] [org.openhab.binding.panasonictv ] - BundleEvent STARTING - org.openhab.binding.panasonictv

Any ideas whaty else I can try ?

The Panasonic TV Binding is a 1.x version binding, so you can’t use PaperUI discovery for finding the TV as a thing (this works only for 2.x version bindings).

You will need to use a flat configuration file (/etc/openhab2/services/panasonictv.cfg) and then define your /etc/openhab2/items/panasonictv.items file. Then use the items in a sitemap.

Example panasonictv.cfg:

########################## Panasonic TV Binding

#IP address of a Panasonic TV instance

lounge_tv=192.168.2.35

See more here: OH1 Panasonic TV Binding not working on OH2? & here: Panasonic TV item does not exist

Ps: If you have tried multiple times to configure your /etc/openhab2/services/panasonictv.cfg, you may have stale config entries in your OH2 system. Delete /var/lib/openhab2/config/org/openhab/panasonictv.config file first, then restart OH2 with the proper /etc/openhab2/services/panasonictv.cfg in place.
Ps2: Don’t use openhab.cfg to configure the binding

Thanks, that worked for me.

Hello ,
I can’t make Openhab2 working with 2.1.0 release build. vith 50CX670
here is the panasonictv.cfg file

IP address for each Panasonic TV instance

tv_living = 192.168.1.18

=

of course i changed the ip address. i dont know, how to deal with
# =

use code fences to post configs (you can also edit your post above to cover the code in fences)
fences = ``` (one like this at start and another at the end)

You may have stale configs in your system from previous efforts to configure the binding.
Check the contents of the following file: /var/lib/openhab2/config/org/openhab/panasonictv.config
Stop OH2, fix your /etc/openhab2/services/panasonictv.cfg and start OH2 again.

Dear all

Did any of you had luck to get this binding working with your TV?
Based on the comments in Get current state (on/off) of panasonic tv
And the Text on the Binding desciription itself
Let me assume it will never work in the state of development as it is at the moment.

Cheers
Stefan

One of the problems with TVs is that the manufacturers keep changing the network interface and accessibility of the TV via the network.
For example, the Samsung TV binding works for all TVs until 2013, after that, Samsung decided to encrypt the network port!!
So it may just be that the panasonic TV binding still works with older TV models but not the newer ones.

Dear all

I have now Ia point to continue on. I was able to switch off the TV using the Android openHAB app. The switch does not work from within Habmin for whatever reason.

follow is the events.log

following is the openhab.log in debug mode from the testing time.

As I test everything mainly with habmin, I would expect to see the same. But this is definitely not the case. I hope someone can explain this.

I came to this conclusion and explicit check as I have found an earlier entry in my logs pointing out a click on switch with wrong configuration. All time after this occurence I didn’t see this again. And I remembered that I once was using the android app.

Kind regards
Stefan

Hi, I’m new on OpenHAB. I have setup OpenHAB 2.3 with Docker and the web app works ok.
I’ve correctly setup my Marantz AVR and Chromecast… but I can’t configure my tv Panasonic VT50…
I’ve setup panasonictv.cfg and deleted panasonictv.config … I’ve followed the official plugin example page and created items … but nothing works :’(
Do you have any suggestions? My TV is connected through WiFi (I need to connect it with LAN cable?).
Thank you in advance for any help.
Bye.

Hi @FabrizioA

I still have the binding active and it is really not that easy. But first of all tell us what you would like to achieve with it?

Power On/off for instance does not work with most of the Panasonic devices.

Cheers
Stefan

Dear Community,

just want to tell you that my old Panasonic TV works with the binding under OH 2.5. Anyway I can use the mentioned buttons, but as stated before, it is not possible to start the TV from OH. Shutting it off is possible.

Best regards,
Jochen
