I’ve seen a number of other posts about this, but none of those solutions work for me. I was able to manually add the device in PaperUI, by specifying the Ember coordinator. I set up hw control and baud rate of 57600. I’m running openhabian 2.4 on an RPi3.
The zigbee thing comes up as “Unknown” in PaperUI and with “?” next to it in Habmin. I put the zigbee binding in debug mode, but I don’t get anymore info. In any case here is the log if I change a property in either Habmin or PaperUI:

I have the zigbee coordinator connected and recognized as online. I don’t have any zigbee devices so I don’t know if it actually works or not but so far it looks to be working.
Make sure you chose the Ember EM35x Coordinator when you created the Thing for the coordinator.
For good measure, I made both users are members of tty and dial out. I added the ports to the defaults. lsusb doe not list the device. At least, not with a description I recognize.

You’ll want to check your logs on startup, with the binding set to debug. Others have reported issues when other USB devices are attached. When the openhab account is setup with the right permissions, the binding is configured for the right port, and all the other coordinator settings are correct (57600, XOn/XOff), you need to restart your Pi to power cycle the stick for the changes to take effect, or use the Reset Controller option. These controllers have worked well for me… I have two (one’s used for testing and a backup), and I’m using both zigbee and zwave. For my devices, I needed to set the Mesh Update Period and Child Aging Timeout both to 1 day. I also set Concentrator Type to High RAM. Another thing to note when using Zigbee, is that it is using 2.4GHz, and all channels that it uses overlap with WiFi, except channel 25. So this is always the best option to set your channel to.
Once you get it working, also change the transmit power to High (Rich too), but I don’t think you’ll see that option in 2.4. There have been other updates in the binding specifically for Ember, which definitely helped in taming some of my devices.
That looks OK. How about ‘id openhab’? If that shows that the openhab account is in the right groups, you’ll need to power cycle the Pi and take a look at the logs. Just to be sure you got the logging right…
No problem! Lots of people had trouble getting these going. Can you open the openhab.log file and search for the port that you used? There should be some pertinent log entries there at startup. Do you have anything else plugged into USB?
Yes, I use a RPi3 and it boots from usb. I also have a usb dongle for mouse and keyboard and, of course, the Nortek controller. Here’s what find in the log after boot.
It’s possible that the other USB devices are causing trouble too, but you’ve set the zigbee port to /dev/ttyAMA0, but it should be /dev/ttyUSB01. You also still have the flow control set to hardware, but this should be software.
Just a couple of lines to thank for this thread. I’m insanely new to this forum, like 15 minutes old and I’m giving OpenHab a try after some tinkering with Smartthings/Hubitat/HomeAssistant but to just start, I had hard times making my HUSBZB-1 to work.
In my particular case it was more about the serial binding (had no clue I had to install it or even it existed) and maybe the parameters on the /etc/default/openhab2 but… whatever it was, it started after serial binding install and a reset was performed!
Now I’m facing challenges with Aeon ZW096 but that will be on other thread as well
