Change string to switch

It should be used. If you install with PaperUI I believe that will take care of itself. If you manually install 1.x binding via console, it will get lost at next reboot otherwise.

Not to be confused with openhab.cfg

Thanks to all your help, but i cancelled the project

I see the main difference between your intended setup and mine WS that I’m using a CUL stick for the sending part.

I know I’m coming late to the party but I had an easy implementation of Amazon Echo, OpenHAB2, and my Raspberry pi following the instructions here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Hacking-the-Amazon-Echo/. Basically you set up fauxmo, which pretends to be a Wemo device. Echo has built-in functionality to detect Wemo devices. Then I communicate the on/off commands betwen fauxmo and OpenHAB using MQTT. It was fairly painless.
