Cool led lights - let’s replace it with WLED!

I had completely forgotten about this one, but thankfully between what’s available online and the few pictures I did take, it’s all good :slight_smile:

So, long story short, these last months I’ve been setting up zigbee lights, rgb WiFi lights and rgb strips around the apartment to sync them all up. Part of the adventure is finding a nifty or good looking light and wondering if we can connect it to OpenHAB.
And I found one:

(Video not by me, like I said, I forgot to take pictures before doing all of the work :frowning: my bad !)

The led bar is Chinese and sold by Action, a fairly new store here in Portugal. Seeing the different modes and effects in person i already expected it to be ws2812b based but there was a white channel in there that threw me a bit off. But anyway, I took it apart and lo and behold, the PCB:

As you can see, there’s one extra pad which feeds about 6 white LEDs on the top channel which I believe was intended as a “reading light” - not that I care about that.

I basically desoldered the original cable, crimped three new ferrules, and hooked it to a wled controller. If you’re wondering which one to get the only important thing to pay attention to is the voltage, this led light is 12 volts.
The original power supply was quite weak so I replaced it with an external HDD psu I had lying around and immediately the brightness went up.

Heres more pictures and a video by me (click the image and you’ll be sent to Imgur):

Why this is cool (this is not AI generated!!):
We have an wled binding so this makes the light connectable to OpenHAB with no fussing about;
Fully local :heart:;
Wled has a built in sync feature, I love it;
It was a really low effort task. Now that you know that it is compatible you just need to cut the cable out, and hook the three cables to a wled controller.
It cost 20 euro o.O

And that’s it. If you have an Action store around check it out. These toys are fairly cheap but if you can replace the controllers then become very interesting for these adventures.

Edit:
Final picture before my 3yo comes around and destroys it :rofl:
