Drayton Wiser binding not available under binding list

Hi there,

I was trying to install Wiser binding but for some reason i cant find it under binding category.
See below, not sure why it isnt there.
Am I missing something ?

You have not provided necessary infornation like hardware, OS, Jaca version, openHAB version, installation type.

Looking at your screenshot, you are runing openHAB 2.4.x, which is really old, two major versions behind. Ever thought of upgrading ? You should at least upgrade to 2.5.x

Yes, that’s correct, good spot, I’m running on old version which is 2.4.0.1
My openhabian is running on RPi3. In general my setup was stable over the years, probably that’s why I wasn’t touching it.
However I can upgrade it to the never version, obviously don’t want to break anything.

What’s the benefit of upgrade to 2.5 ?

Can I upgrade it by selecting an update from openhabian? I think this is how I got was updating everything else in the past.

Can you give a bit more information about your Pi?
Memory/OS version, 32/64 bit ?

Upgrade from 2.4 to 4.3 might not be straightforward, as many things have changed. Better would to backup your config and start fresh with a new SD Card. You can restore the backup to the new card and start the upgrade tool provided.

Please see attached below.
My SD card has capacity of 32Gb, I believe I have another one with the same size with the copy of the system.

Let me know what would be the best option to upgrade.

Hm, you are running a Pi3 with 1GB of memory.
This is not sufficient to upgrade to openHAB 4.3 with 64bit bookworm OS and Java17.

You‘d better get a Pi4 with minimum 2GB memory.

You asked for benefits of upgrading:
New Bindings, Auto Discovery at first start, Improved new UI, improved BasicUI, Rule languages. The list is not ending here…

Thanks @hmerk

I have three options for upgrading:

  1. A new RPi4, maybe even with 4GB memory.

  2. RPi5 - according to the website, this unit will be in production until 2036. At the movement a lot more expensive but maybe it’s worth considering it.

  3. NAS

I have an older NAS drive, Netgear ReadyNAS 212, it’s a 2 bay unit, which is out of warranty but still works. I thought about using it for openHAB, I don’t know if it would be worth it.

What I like about Raspberry Pi is its low power consumption, which is at the level of 4-5W. This NAS is several times more, from 10W (idle) to 27W (peak).

Is it better to stick with RPi4 / or RPi5 (which I will have to buy) or maybe switch to this old NAS?

What’s are your thoughts on that ?

I would prefer a Raspberry with openHABian image.

A big one not listed which is kind on topic is there are not too many people active on the forum with relevant experience to help with problems for a 5+ year old release. A lot has changed and we don’t always remember what changed and when.

@andy31 I did want to address you original problem though.

I don’t know why it’s not listed but it is possible it didn’t exist for 2.4. But even if it did you’d have some problems. just before the release of OH 3.0 Bintray, the place we hosted OH’s build artifacts, shutdown. So unless you downloaded the add-ons.kar file for 2.4 when you installed OH, you can’t install new add-ons anyway, at least not the usual way. There are ways to get an archived version of the kar file from various places but OH itself won’t be able to. This is why the earliest version of OH that receives even minimal support is 2.5.12. Anything before that is, as far as the OH service itself, gone.

Indeed, forgot about bintray, but this does not explain other bindings being listed. So it might not have been existent for the old version.

Thank you all for your clear explanation.

It seems that I have slept through some time, I see that openhab has grown a lot.

I will be purchasing another Pi soon.

Is it worth buying RPi5 just for openhabian or should RPi4 be absolutely enough here? Is 2MB memory enough or should I buy 4MB.

I would go for a Pi4 with 4GB.
