The R models state that they will work with 3rd party systems through rs232 ( The link Below is to the datasheet)

I have read that the neo series doesn’t play well with the current DSC binding. is that on IP? or serial?
all I really need is to read a serial print from the system to get status. Though bidirectional communication would be great.
I am prepared to put some time in on this, especially if there is even an existing jumping off point that I can continue from.
Please let me know if anyone has anything working.
