In case it’s not known here yet… When browsing Thingiverse the other day, I found the Dynatrace UFO. It’s basically an UFO shaped indicator light which is originally meant for visualizing events in softyware development and deployment cycles. But it turns out, it runs on pretty common electronics - an ESP8266 and WS2812B LED strips. The original firmware contains a REST API which can make the UFO do all kinds of fun stuff. I just printed and soldered my first one for the living room and started coding my own MQTT-based FW now. Gonna be a decorative light, controlled by scenes with included indicator functions for selected OpenHAB events.
