I can now answer my own question: In the rules file switch (myScenes) { should be switch (myScenes.state) {

ow, so simple!! it works now! my example came from this forum: https://community.openhab.org/t/examples-of-scenes/16411/5 I have a mqtt client to check the mqtt messages from the broker. i use mqttbox. Thanks!
