The Link on About -> Foundation gives SSL Error/ Wrong Zertificate.

About -> Donate -> openHAB Foundation e.V. works well

Thanks for noticing, we indeed only had a valid certificate on https://www.openhabfoundation.org/, but not on https://openhabfoundation.org/. Should be fixed now!

Perhaps some automation solution could regularly check siteccessibility and certificates, notifying for any problems.
I hear openHAB is a good solution. You may want to try that.
Actually an open source Nagios fork such as Icinga should work well too.
