Google Home with myopenhab.org loading infinitely and doing nothing

Hi all,

I wonder why I couldn’t find any threads about this issue. Am I the only one?

About one or two days ago my Google Home devices (connected to myopenhab.org) stopped being able to control any openhab item. When I say for example “hey google, turn on the light” I see the google home LEDs turning on and fading infinitely. Same happens when I say “hey google, synchronize my devices”.

Other google home implementations, like my harmony hub that is connected directly without openhab, work like a charm. I can also say “google, play radio” without problems.

Any clue what could be causing this?

best regards

Stefan

Have you checked your devices in the Google Home app? (after doing syncronisation).

thanks for the hint. So, all the devices and rooms are shown correctly but if I try to turn on the light in a specific room I see a German error message “reagiert nicht” (does not react)

Are you sure your cloud is connected? (you´ll have to check your openhab logfile).

EDIT - Or you can try login to myopenhab.org and tjek your server is online.

it seems I was facing some connectivity issues in the past, but right now it looks good to me:

If you ask Google to sync your devices now, which respond do you get?

see first post  it just fades the LEDs forever. I recorded a 1min video:

Even after 3min it’s still fading until I say “hey google stop”.

Thats odd… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Is openhab the only services you have connected to your Google Home devices?
If yes - I´m pretty sure something is wrong with the cloud connected (myopenhab). Just weird it says your server is online… Did you try access your server through myopenhab ? If not, please try.

Next idea… Have you tried restarting your openhab server? If/when you do, pay attention to the log (tail log) and notice if the cloud connection succeed.

Did you make any changed to any items lately? I wonder if one item went wrong, and then lock up the syncronisation… In the “old days” nothing would work if you mess up one item… This might have changed with the 2.0 integration. (I havn´t tried myself).

There is fore sure something weird going on with your system/myopenhab/google.

Just remember… aprox 2-3 days ago, @michikrug made an update to the integration (fixed the farenheit issue)… Maybe something else went wrong there…
I used Google last night and this morning… I had no issue.

Accessing my openhab instance via myopenhab.org works as well without problems.

I have harmony logitech connected as well (independant of openhab). If I say “hey google, turn on the TV” it works like a charm.

Right now I’ve upgraded from M5 to M6 (which includes a restart). Now if I say “synchronize my devices” google home returns “of course, harmony has been synced, with openhab an error occured” (freely translated from German to English).

EDIT: HA! I just tried again to synchronize and this time it worked! but now it gets really strange. all my openhab items are gone in the google home app (all room lights and rollershutters :frowning: ) however, if I say “hey google, turn on the lights in the living room” it works!

Hmm… Thats strange… Did you try restart the Google Home app as well?
Is your items/device for the harmoney logitech still there?

yes I also restarted the google home app, but no change.
So currently voice commands do work again, but all my devices are gone in the google home app, but harmony devices. These are still there

I had to test when I get back home…it could be a new issue after michael update the integration a coupple of days ago.

Upgrading will clean the cache and restart but sometimes a reboot is needed to get everything working again, at least for me.:upside_down_face:

I suggest cleaning the cache again and reboot.

sudo systemctl stop openhab2

sudo openhab-cli clean-cache

sudo reboot

thanks for the hint, but nothing changed. in general everything works but all my items are gone in the google home app. About 20 lights and 10 rollershutters in different rooms :-/

Google home app on your phone or items in OH are gone?

google home app on my phone. I see all my rooms, which are more or less empty. they just contain a few google home devices or logitech devices. Usually on the bottom (when you scroll down) you can see “new” devices which haven’t been added to your home yet, or assigned to a room. but there is nothing listed. What is strange in the settings menu I can see the openhab connection and 34 devices, which I cannot find anywhere.

PS: only thing I saw in the OH logs was:

`

2019-12-02 15:32:07.418 [WARN ] [okhttp3.OkHttpClient ] - A connection to https://myopenhab.org/ was leaked. Did you forget to close a response body? To see where this was allocated, set the OkHttpClient logger level to FINE: Logger.getLogger(OkHttpClient.class.getName()).setLevel(Level.FINE);

Not sure I can help with the phone app. Maybe try shutting down OH, delete your items from google home app and then rediscover them. After you have them in the app restart OH and see what happens.???

The log warning is nothing new. I forget all the details about why this occurs but it’s nothing to be concerned about.

for sure my last try would be to remove the openhab connection in the google home app. then I need to reconfigure the complete home :frowning: probably the quickest solution.

It may be an issue with items that can only be connected to one device/controller. If you shut down harmony logitech and restart everything what happens?

Never heard of that issue before. I have 4 services connected to my Goggle Home setup incl openhab. All works fine.
