# How to reliably detect a grid power outage from inverter Modbus data

Basic assumption - most likely you need direct connection to meter, not through inverter.

Since meter is between grid and hybrid inverter, which sources power from inverter, meter will loose power and not answer any rs485 calls when grid is gone.  
Some meters (ie. ineprometering PRO380) with more recent firmware have “Power down counter”.
