Http binding error after update to openHAB ver. 2.5.12-1

After updating OpenHAB to ver 2.5.12-1 the processing of items which read values from a Volkszahler database don’t work anymore.

The /var/log/openhab2/openhab.log contains:

[ERROR] [org.apache.felix.configadmin ] - [org.osgi.service.cm.ManagedService, org.osgi.service.event.EventHandler, id=379, bundle=219/mvn:org.openhab.binding/org.openhab.binding.http/[1.14.0,1.15)]: Unexpected problem updating configuration org.openhab.http

After I changed then update interval value in Paper UI from “30000 # milliseconds” to simply “30000” the error changes to:

[ERROR] [org.apache.felix.configadmin ] - [org.osgi.service.cm.ManagedService, org.osgi.service.event.EventHandler, id=379, bundle=219/mvn:org.openhab.binding/org.openhab.binding.http/[1.14.0,1.15)]: Unexpected problem updating configuration org.openhab.http
java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "30000.0"

The http.cfg file is unchanged an looks like this:

# see https://www.openhab.org/addons/bindings/http1/
# timeout in milliseconds for the http requests (optional, defaults to 5000)
#timeout=

# the interval in milliseconds when to find new refresh candidates
# (optional, defaults to 1000)
#granularity=

# whether to substitute the current time or state value into the URL
# (optional, defaults to true)
#format=

# configuration of the first cache item
#<id1>.url=
#<id1>.updateInterval=
# Smartmeter / RPI Volkszaehler - without middleware very low latency!!! Only the 4 original channels show up
smartmeter.url=http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080/
smartmeter.updateInterval=30000

Does anyone know what causes this behavior? I the old Version 2 it worked for months.

Best regards,
Armin

These methods are essentially incompatible. You should be editing only http.cfg
Somewhere in your system is a “cached” version file http.config, I forget where, search for it.
Stop openHAB, delete http.config, and it will recreated from http.cfg upon reboot.

How many of them would I need to delete?
There are the following:

/var/lib/openhab2/config/org/apache/karaf/http.config
/var/lib/openhab2/config/org/openhab/http.config
/etc/openhab2/services/http.cfg
/srv/openhab2-userdata/config/org/apache/karaf/http.config
/srv/openhab2-userdata/config/org/openhab/http.config
/srv/openhab2-conf/services/http.cfg

I stopped openhab2 service daemon, deleted /srv/openhab2-userdata/config/org/openhab/http.config, because in there where old channels that don’t existed anymore.

After restarting the daemon the errors got even brighter:

2021-08-25 14:37:39.535 [INFO ] [el.core.internal.ModelRepositoryImpl] - Validation issues found in configuration model 'countDown.rules', using it anyway:
Error executing EValidator

Still no data from Volkszaehler.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Armin

If it looked like an http.cfg, that’s probably the right one.
Rummaging in old cfg/config conflict posts confirms that folder.

I don’t know what that is about. “xtext.validation” does suggest configuration somewhere.

But that is a better clue. Unusual error, but look like something up in that rules file - something more than syntax, maybe character set?

Thanks very much for the hints regarding mixing configurations made through Paper UI and directly via config files. I had that before in other definitions made in items files.

I cleaned up everything meanwhile so no errors/warnings in the log file anymore. However, it seems that the http.cfg command have no effect anymore since the update of openHAB2.

I setup a logInfo command inside a rule which was executed flawlessly before the update each time when the item received an update.

rule "xxx"
when
  Item Power_Purchased received update
then
  logInfo("Timestamp", "TS [ms]: " + new DateTime(Energy_ZoeTimer.state.toString).millis);
end

According to the http.cfg this would be supposed to happen every 30 seconds. Currently no entries come up in the log. That leads me to the conclusion, that the smartmeter.url query is not being triggered any longer.

The item is defined as and worked before the update:

Number Power_Purchased  "1.8.0 [%.1f W]"    <solarplant>  { http="<[smartmeter:30000:JS(smartmeter_actualPower1.8.0.js)]" }

Any ideas why the http.cfg is being ignores and how I could reactivate it?

Is the http1 binding installed? Must be version 1.x if you want to use that configuration method.

Yes, its the binding-http1 - 1.14.0.

And just for a change, I tried to uninstall the binding via Paper UI and it would work. Only shows the sand clock and after a while ist stops and show the “uninstall” option again.

Is there a way to get rid of the binding straight away?

Much depends on how installed it - jar in your addons folder, edit in your addons.cfg, etc.

PaperUI everlasting hourglass is common enough, but it has usually done what it was told behind the scenes.

If you want something instant, I suppose you could try stopping the package from karaf console.

None of this will fix your Item.

Well, now I guess its time to call it a day. I deleted the service http via karaf bundle:list and remove the pertinent number referring to http. But still http was there in Paper UI.

So I followed another route:

sudo systemctl stop openhab2
sudo openhab-cli clean-cache
sudo reboot

After that openhab wasn’t happy at all. It gave me the errors:

[ERROR] [core.karaf.internal.FeatureInstaller] - Failed installing 'openhab-ui-homebuilder, openhab-binding-mail, openhab-persistence-jdbc-mariadb, openhab-transformation-javascript, openhab-binding-network, openhab-ui-habpanel, openhab-action-pushover, openhab-transformation-jsonpath, openhab-transformation-map, openhab-ui-basic, openhab-binding-ntp, openhab-binding-openweathermap, openhab-binding-astro, openhab-binding-homematic, openhab-transformation-exec, openhab-binding-systeminfo, openhab-ui-paper': Error:
	Error downloading mvn:org.openhab.addons.bundles/org.openhab.binding.mail/[2.5.0,2.6)

With a little more research in the community I found the advice to delete /var/lib/openhab2/config/org/openhab/addons.config to be re-created after reboot.

However, now neither the web frontend (HabPanel, PaperUI …) nor login via karaf console is possible. Even restoring addons.config did not change it.

Any ideas?

Yes. By deleting cache you’ve forced a reload of all add-ons. By default those are fetched from the web. And they’re not in the same place anymore.

Not sure how you managed an update without discovering this before.

Ok, I downgraded back to the previous version … great to have a backup.

After worsening the situation by every new change made, I give up.

Even when I rolled back via backup and used the openhabian-config tool including the change of the bintray source path the system wouldn’t work without errors. This time avahi and bluez* would not work. Even deleting the misspelled source file would make a difference. Whatsmore, umpteens of new errors turned up.

Updating FireMotD available updates count ...
Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.systemd1.UnitMasked: Unit -.mount is masked.
N: Ignoring file 'openhab2.liste' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

And a full upgrade to version 3 would have meant hours and hours of adapting the whole system.
Thanks for your help!
