I have to go…

Sorry guys to disturb you.

Just a quick note to let let you know, that I will move on.

Since approx. 10 years I am with openHAB. I even build my new house with it. I eventually became foundation member.

What has happened?

Time!

Actually, I do not have the time to do all the maintenance of keeping my openHAB up to date, maintaining the core (Container, Java, etc.) to just have my lights going on…

I decided to move on. I moved on HomeKit exclusively. All in. Got a ZWave-bridge for HomeKit (Thinka) and integrated the remaining parts with HomeBridge. Cameras with Scrypted.

I am happy now. Can work on my smarthome from the sofa, while creating automations in Home. Not that powerful as in openHAB, but OK for me. Saves me a lot of time.

I will keep being an OpenHAB foundation member until end of this year.

At the end of this year I will say finally „good bye“…

Bodo

I’m inclined to agree with your decision, @bodomenke. If you don’t need the power of openHAB and have moved on from the “hobby”, it makes more sense to go with a consumer solution and spend your time elsewhere.

Cheers!

What maintenance is required to keep it running though? I get that things can break, but you could technically leave the machine running OH alone in the corner and then not touch for a few years. If it’s not exposed to anything hostile, you don’t have to do any maintenance.
