iCloud Binding Communication Error

Yes, I forgot to mention that it will eventually come back online on its own. I’ve seen that happen in as short as a couple minutes to as long as 20 minutes later.

I am experiencing the authentication issue. This is the message from the Thing:

COMMUNICATION_ERROR

java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: org.eclipse.jetty.client.HttpResponseException: HTTP protocol violation: Authentication challenge without WWW-Authenticate header

And from the log:

This evening it isn’t coming back online. I will try a longer delay before enabling the bridge. If that doesn’t work, I will try stopping OpenHAB, cleaning the cache and restarting.

After stopping. Cleaning the cache and starting, I observed this in the log:

I’m using the 3.4 Snapshot file that fixed the NULL issue. I’m not sure, but seems like a dependency issue. I may try the full current SNAPSHOT OpenHAB and see if it helps.

After migrating to the current openHAB 3.4 SNAPSHOT (using openHABian select branch), I haven’t had the problem any more. (And nothing else appears to have broken, which isn’t always a given with a snapshot. I’m generally a “second rat gets the cheese” guy and try to stay off the bleeding edge).

Update: I’m experiencing the

Same for me. I’m also getting these nie red error blocks in my log.
Also on my side,OH snapshot, 3.4, ICloud binding 3.4.0 snapshot. In average maybe 4 times a day…
I’m not repeating the error log,its the same as above…

I came across some information HERE regarding the error message and it seems that the error is a server-side issue…meaning a problem on Apple’s side. Does that seem right? I’m not sure how we would fix this on our end.

The HTTP WWW-Authenticate response header defines the HTTP authentication methods (“challenges”) that might be used to gain access to a specific resource.

Note: This header is part of the General HTTP authentication framework, which can be used with a number of authentication schemes. Each “challenge” lists a scheme supported by the server and additional parameters that are defined for that scheme type.

A server using HTTP authentication will respond with a 401 Unauthorized response to a request for a protected resource. This response must include at least one WWW-Authenticate header and at least one challenge, to indicate what authentication schemes can be used to access the resource (and any additional data that each particular scheme needs).

I don’t know enough to know whether this indicates the problem is on Apple’s side or not. The fact that I can get it going again by manually disabling and reenabling the account Thing make me think that perhaps the binding should be able to deal with this situation.

Any news so far?

@mvo
Read the thread.

Of course I’ve read, but I’m asking if may someone has any updated. On thread I see that it may be a server side from icloud issue …Also i can see that for your it works right after some minutes right?!

Also a restart of OH gets it going again. So this does not necessarily look like a Apple’s side problem but rather like an (re-)initialization issue of the binding.

I can confirm this behavior. Yesterday it also required an OH restart here to get the binding “Online” again. Sometimes its enough to disable/enable the thing.

I’m still seeing it. Most of the time it seems to recover on its own, but most of the time is not acceptable reliability.

It was probably a mistake in community protocol to add this to a previous related issue. Regardless, it seems like there are enough reports that I will open an issue on GitHub. [iCloud] Binding Communications Error. Drops offline, comes back online some of the time · Issue #13231 · openhab/openhab-addons · GitHub

Today, even an OH restart didn’t bring the account thing to status “Online”?

Me too!

Today, the bridge thing is „Online“ again.

Mine went offline last night. This morning a quick cycling of the account Thing (disable, enable), did NOT solve the problem. Waited a little longer, did it again, and it came back on line.

So, something is still wrong but i am not enough expert to conclude if its an Apple issue or if the iCloud binding causes this unreliability.

Hi there,
since one hour i get the following error from the icloud-binding:

java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: org.eclipse.jetty.client.HttpResponseException: HTTP protocol violation: Authentication challenge without WWW-Authenticate header

Binding-Restart / OH-Restart does not help.

Somebody else problems at this time ?

Thank you for feedback…

I can confirm the same problem… Binding version: 3.4.0.202207121439
