Of course. You can and should take as long as you want to transition. You should always approach any upgrade deliberately and carefully and when you have time. And never start an upgrade without a roll back plan. This is test for any upgrade and doubly true for an upgrade that will have many breaking changes like will happen from 2.5 to 3.0.
