Jasco power outlet ZW1002 not discovered

On OH 2.5.5 I can’t get this outlet to play.

In the Paper UI the automatic discovery of the Z-Wave binding ends up with a generic thing.
The log file says “Device discovery could not resolve to a thingType! Manufacturer data not known.”

The label on the device says “JASCO Products, Model: ZW1002”.
There’s no such model in the Supported Things list.
In my .things file I tried out all other Jasco models (power outlets), without any luck.

Google didn’t bring up anything useful.

What would be a good course of action?
Can I create my own device type definition?
Would the manufacturer care?

It doesn’t appear to be in the Z-Wave database on Chris Jackson’s website. I’m not sure how up-to-date the list you pointed to in the documentation is, but it’s not in either so they appear to be in sync.

If the manufacturer data is not known, then it’s not possible to know if this device is in the database, or in fact for the binding to work out what the device is.This probably indicates that the device is not communicating with the binding - otherwise you would have a different message that mentions the manufacturer information.

You must get this manufacturer information - if the device is in the database, then the binding will be able to discover it. If it’s not in the database, you will be able to add it, but you can’t add it to the database without this data.

I would suggest to get a logfile as per the binding documentation to try and work out what is wrong. It could be that the device is too far away from the controller, or maybe the device is communicating, but something else is preventing the binding getting the manufacturer data.

Here’s another data point:

I bought another zwave outlet, a Honeywell 39349 and this time I checked the things list that it is supported.
When it arrived I was at first disappointed, because the outlet is label “Jasco ZW1002”, like my earlier one. And it didn’t get discovered with the same message as my earlier one.

I then manually chose configured the model ID honeywell_39349_00_000 in my .things file – and it worked. Using the same model ID on my earlier outlet still doesn’t work.

Which log file would give me as many details about the discovery process as possible?

The distance between the outlet and the controller is actually pretty short. The 2nd outlet I bought works fine over the same distance.

The could be different device type / id pairs. That could make it a different database item. Model numbers can be deceiving. Firmware versions sometimes have different entries too, if features are added to later versions.

Were you able to get the thingtype for this outlet sorted out? I have the device online but the thingtype is unknown. I did find it in the database so it should have been automatically found, correct? Appreciate your help, thank you.

That depends. What version of openHAB are you running? That device was approved on January 1 so it is only in the very recent versions of the OH binding.

Were you running 3.0.1 when you first added the Thing to OH? If not, delete and rediscover the Thing to get the new settings from the binding.

Yes, I was running 3.0.1. I have deleted it and rediscovered but with same result.

As an added comment: the Thing was paired with the controller off-line and then included in OH. Maybe I should try to delete the Thing and rediscover by software.

I just rediscovered by software with same result: ThingType - unknown device.

Please post the xml file generated in the zwave folder of userdata. Perhaps it I had a different device identification.

I edited a previous response to include the xml file. Noted differences from the database are: deviceId (3234 vs 3233) and protocolVersion (6.8 vs 4.39). I’m not able to update the database - what do you recommend? Thank you

It is a community maintained database and the guide is here.

I went ahead and added it to the existing entry. It should be available in a snapshot binding i about a week after the next database export.
