PLEASE READ BEFORE UPDATING TO 5.0 Nightly or Milestone builds

The Matter binding is officially part of our 5.0 builds, and will be in the next milestone release.

There are some steps required to upgrade to the official version for existing users of the marketplace binding.

This only affects the Matter controller, not the bridge functionality.

The updated binding changed the internal structure of Node and Endpoint things, so these need to be removed first using the Main UI, but will be automatically added back WITHOUT needing to re-pair (commission) devices, it should only take a few mins to complete.

  1. DO NOT DELETE the Controller Thing, nothing has changed there, and that holds the matter fabric we want to keep (if you do, let me know and we can recover)
  2. Using the Main UI (or if using files, comment out the entries) delete all Nodes/Endpoints Things. NOTE: if you already upgraded by accident, you will need to delete each twice (the first time will put it in pending delete state, the second time will force the delete).
  3. Remove the matter binding in the MainUI for the marketplace version, if its in the addons folder, remove it from there.
  4. Install the official matter binding from the Main UI
  5. In the Thing view, click the add button (the plus button), select the Matter binding, and then select “Scan”, do not enter a code.
  6. All your existing devices will show up as new Things, click “add all” to add them all back

Thats it, the IDs and channels are mostly the same, so most of you should not have to relink any items.

There might be a channel or 2 where the channel name did change due to other reasons, so check orphaned links in the MainUI and relink the item as needed (i can’t remember which ones i had to change, maybe power?). Should be quick to fix.

I will be closing this thread soon and will start another one for the official matter binding.
