We are waiting on the 5.0 milestone release for some other technical issues, but matter is in the nightly builds, you can always find those on our Jfrog repo. I have not tried this, so use at your own risk, but you can download a recent build and drop it into your addons folder. Just beware, you will want to delete this once you upgrade to a milestone or release as there will definitely be updates.
When adding the things back, they came back with the generic labels. Not an impossible problem, the links to the existing items, which I thankfully did not delete, came back. I can use that as a guide to rename the thing labels
openHAB 5.0.0
Build 4666
Hi Dan,
Iâm doing some experiments with version 500M2 and Matter binding. On my Pi, Iâve installed a fresh docker container with the latest 500M2 image. Installation went okay and I could go through the initial setup steps successfully. Next I wanted to install the Matter binding from the marketplace. I got the splash screen warning me this was not an official binding, pushed install. Nearly immediately I got a toast mentioning the a problem:
![]()
In openhab log file the following error was inserted:
2025-06-17 20:54:44.460 [ERROR] [t.core.internal.addons.AddonResource] - Exception while installing add-on: Cannot invoke "String.length()" because "this.input" is null
The reason I started with a fresh installation was because I had the same problem on 4.3.5 and also when I upgrade 4.3.5 to 5.0.0.M2.
Thanks
I donât believe the latest is in M2. Youâll have to go with a nightly snapshot, or wait for M3 (or the 5.0 stable release). I also remember that the Marketplace version is not the latest as well. Best way is to download the latest from GitHub.
The latest 5.0 milestone build should be here very shortly. I have pulled the marketplace version from this thread as i do not want it available for auto installing as its not going to be supported and there are significant changes in the 5.0 version. The jars are still up on my github site if you want to drop into your addon folder, but i recommend waiting a day or 2 for the next milestone release.
Thanks.
Now that 5.0 M3 is out, I would like to double check the procedure if upgrading from a much older version. This goes back to posts 474 and 481 above, and post 564. 474/481 say that we need to remove the openHAB bridge from Amazon/Alexa/Google first.
Would this be correct?
- Go to Amazon/Alexa/Google apps and remove the OH bridge and all devices (474/481)
- Delete all all Matter Nodes/Endpoints Things (not the controller) using MainUI (564)
- Remove the Matter binding (564)
- Upgrade OH to 5.0 M3
- Add the Matter binding
- Go to Thing view, click + button, select Matter binding, âScanâ â should show all devices that were previously removed
- Go to Amazon/Alexa/Google apps and re-add all desired devices and put in groups
That sounds about it, if you last upgraded around the May/April time frame, how old is âoldâ, do you know what your last installed version is?
March 19
I think that should be fine.
I have started a new thread for the 5.0 version of the Matter binding, please use that for future questions or issues.
Thanks!
