Modbus with FTX ventilation?

I’m running openHABian 4 on an RPI 5 and planning to install an FTX ventilation system (e.g., Swegon) which has Modbus. I’ve tried to read up on the subject, but I don’t want to risk buying a system that’s not compatible. Are all Modbus devices directly compatible, or how much hardware adaptation or programming might be required to read and control the FTX via openHAB?

I have experience with openHAB but no experience with Modbus.

Thanks in advance,
Joakim

Joakim,
Swegon FTX (CASA) works great with openHAB via Modbus binding + cheap USB-RS485 adapter (~€20). No gateway needed.

  1. Plug adapter → RPi

  2. Add serial bridge in modbus.cfg

  3. Map registers from Swegon manual

Takes ~1h. Read-only first!

Sounds very good, thank you
