MQTT cant add a channel

  • Platform information:
    • Hardware: Raspberry pi 5
    • OS:Debian 12.11
    • Java Runtime Environment: jdk 21
    • openHAB version:5.0
  • Issue of the topic: I have just installed OpenHAB, for the first time. I have an already installed, and working MQTT Broker. I configured the MQTT add on, and tested it. When I attempt to add a new device I select channels, on the MQTT broker. Select add channel, at which point I have a form to fill in, but there is no way to save my entries.

In the advice I have read there is mention of “Generic MQTT device” but I have not seen that phrase in the config.

I am pretty sure that this is dumb newbie question but, any pointers much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey Andrew,

Navigate to Administration > Settings > Things, then click the + button at the bottom right. Select MQTT binding in the list. You should now see a list of possible MQTT things, and in there you should see the generic MQTT thing, like this:

Do you see that?

In the next step you need to name it, select the MQTT bridge you have already defined, and then you have the Create Thing at the bottom.
