Multi-homed openHAB

For the vast majority of users they have just the one Switch Item linked to the actual device. Most of the time we just don’t care to know where the command is coming from because it doesn’t make any functional difference and we are not doing the sorts of analysis you are interested in.

In my case, the closest case I have to this are my lights. During part of the day I care whether a light was switched on or off because of a Rule or because a manual interaction (if manual it disables the automation for that light). And I achieve this without using proxy Items at all and instead use timestamps.

In rare circumstances users may have one or two proxies. Eight proxies per Switch is, as far as I’m aware, unique and unprecedented. I’m not saying wrong by any means, but unique. I know of no other user who has a setup like this.
