In light of that information, I’m not entirely sure what to make of the response from above:

me too - i am trying to see why nslookup from a windows box doesn’t seem to show that the windows server, is not forwarding requests it cannot resolve to the router.
I think your windows DNS server is asking the authoritative server (your router) to lookup kitchenenvy.QUEEN.local
, or, as you suspect, it is not able to query the router.
i’ll dig in to that - at least i think i am on the right path … thank you!
