I just found this article on Apple News and SlashGear:

> **[This Raspberry Pi Project Can Turn Your House Into An Automated Smart Home -...](https://www.slashgear.com/1964201/automated-smart-home-raspberry-pi-project-details/)**
>
> A Raspberry Pi home automation project enables controlling lights, sensors, and smart devices via open-source software, turning any house into a smart home.

Uber Home Automation with Arduino has been around for a good long time. I built my first room sensors using it as the base to grow from. It’s a great resource if you are just getting started with electronics. I haven’t look back at it for years now though. I wonder what they have gotten up to…

Sadly the forum seems to be mostly dead with the last post over two years old.

I think anyone looking to do this today would do well to start on an ESP over an Arduino so you don’t need the RPi to transmit the sesnor readings. Most of the wiring information should be about the same though.

I will say the SlashGear article was rather underwhelming with almost no actual content. It’s nice they mentioned openHAB but having read the article I’m not sure I would even know what they meant.
