British Gas just installed new “smart” gas and eleccy meters in my house. They also gave me a “Geo” portable monitor, which isn’t described on Geo’s website but probably uses some Zigbee protocol. It has no RJ45 or USB socket, unlike some of their other monitors.
Has anyone tried to integrate British Gas meters into OH yet?
You do get some nice graphs on the British Gas app and website but I’m not knowledgeable enough to scrape the data into my OH system. You were the only person to respond to my post and I sort of gave up.
If you find a way forward, please ping me. I have less free time these days and it wasn’t a priority but I’ll come back to it again when I have more time and more people have had a crack at it.
If it’s using ZigBee, as I believe it is, it’s likely to be incredibly difficult to crack as the Smart Energy profile is meant for prepayment billing etc. Maybe it’s using something else with lesser security, but even standard ZigBee 128bit encryption is going to be a tough nut (sadly!).
Hi Chris, good to hear from you again. Hope you’re well.
British Gas did a small pilot with a different display device, which I think had better options but it wasn’t released to the wider public. Maybe when IoT gets bigger they’ll look at options for integration again. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the update though. Not holding my breath!
