I’m currently running the binding again from scratch, and haven’t seen any problems yet. I’m trying to pinpoint what triggers the failures to start happening. As you might have noticed, not working on this fulltime 
what hardware are you running your OH on, just out of interest?
Much appreciated. If I can do anything to test. I run OH 2.3 on a Pi 3 with serial connection.
Everything works fine with me, I have a good stable integration since 2-3 years…
I’m glad to tell you guys I’m working on a future proof solution for our Nikobus systems 
that will also survive any big upcoming OpenHAB 3.0 rewrites, which will definitely break our old binding. I’d say I’m halfway through, I’ll be looking for testers soon (1-2 months?). I’ll open up a new topic when the time comes.
