[oh3] Upgrade from 3.1.0 to 3.2.0 SOLVED

  • Platform information:
    • Hardware: NUC VmWare ESXI 7 - Intel i5 - 2 GB - SSD 100GB
    • OS: Ubuntu Server 20.04.2 LTS
    • Java Runtime Environment: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Zulu11.48+21-CA
    • openHAB version: 3.1.0

Hi All,
I haven’t find nothing in the forum about the upgrade of OH3 manually installed on Ubuntu server, so, just to avoid problems I’m asking if I will experience some issues before proceding.
This is my situation:
Ubuntu server 20.04.02 LTS running on a virtual machine under ESXI7
Ram: 2gb
SSD: 100GB
Java Zulu11
I installed manually OH3 on /opt/openhab
I’m using the GUI only for things and I wrote manually the default.items, so all the items used are defined there, the same thing applies to the rules files.
I thought about upgrading by simply copying the new 3.2.0 runtime over the old 3.1.0.
Am I saying nonsense?
Is it possible that in this way all the settings are maintained?
And what about the installed addons that are related to the old version, what would happen?
Thanks in advance for any reply!

Why don’t you use deb package from the repo ?
Update procedure for manual installation is described at Migration to openHAB 3 | openHAB

Thank you very much for the fast reply!
I saw this procedure, but it seems to be for the upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0, can I use it for 3.1 to 3.2 also?

Yes, this procedure is being used for updates within main versions, too.
The addons’ kar file you initially placed in the addons folder will be replaced by a newer version, too.
