startup is slower in M4 (M3 was really fast)

I started migrating my oh system running on raspi2b from oh3.4 to oh4.0Mx
I 'm heavily struggeling with the load time from javascripts 11. It has increased from 3-5sec to 60-70sec for the 1st run.
I hoped that with oh4M4 there’ll be an improvement.
But this hat not happened.

Will an improvement happen at all? Is it possible?

Could someone confirm if resizing blocks of Location/Property/Equipment in MainUI is already possible in OH4 now?
Any parameter would allow to change height or proportion of blocks that would keep all blocks at one page WITHOUT scrolling?

Looks like js transformation is loaded too late in the boot process (this also happened in M3):

Hello! I’ve recently updated from 4.0m2 to 4.0m4 and I’ve noticed that each frame in sitemap is now producing following error in console

[ui.internal.items.ItemUIRegistryImpl] - Failed to retrieve item during widget rendering, item does not exist: Item 'null' could not be found in the item registry

Seems like adding something as silly as this solves “spam” issue although for now, I’ve just filtered those errors out.

Updated from OH4 M3 to M4 and charts on Basic UI and OH Android App lost the labels of the x-axis. Someone with the same problem?

There are plenty of warnings in the log.

Edit: I figured out that the labels are missing only if period is set to “D” (1 day). When using “12h” the labels are shown.

For me charts aren’t loading at all sometimes, I need to restart openHAB to fix it and then I see the same thing. I feel like we might to revert XChart again… And start looking for alternatives.

I have the exact same error in Docker M4 after upgrading from M3. A restart of OH got the firmware messages away, but some rules did not fire. As I examined the openhab.log I saw that the message “Rule Engine Started” never came in M4.
Therefore, I had to revert to Docker M3, and everything was fine again.

EDIT: It seemed everything was not fine, when I reversed to M3, so I had to dig deeper. Suddenly some events related to mqtt items were not fired - same pattern as in M4. After a long investigation it seemed that M4 had caused some internal mqtt services in openhab to be stopped, and that setting was kept when reverting. So I went into karaf console, issued a bundle:list command and started those with status ‘Resolved’. Then all events were fired again.

I do not know why M4 either did not start some services or in any other way caused them to be stopped.

I think this might be yet another case of out-of-order loading/executing stuff during startup.

Having been running 4.0.0.M2 for some time, this evening (after a random Java crash) I decided I should update to the latest Milestone, and it has… gone pretty badly, TBH.

The major problem was the new need (which I gather was introduced in M3) to add units to every item metadata separately to the units already specified in the state description. While I kinda get that one should be able to do that, the requirement to do so seems like a bad one - the previous behaviour of “if it’s not specified in the metadata, use the state description”. It certainly broke a lot of things in a lot of unexpected ways, and once I finally dig myself out I’ll need to wipe a few hours of garbage from my influx database. I’m still not really sure how close I am to digging myself out of the new unit specification requirement, because unfortunately the log has stopped reporting things it used to report all the time, and I can’t really tell if that’s because significant elements of the system aren’t running, or because it’s just decided to stop logging them.

Weirdly, the first time I ran it (before fixing the item units), the log behaved as I was used to it behaving before… which was how I first noticed the problem, seeing rain rate and wind speed both reported in km/h rather than mm/h and kn respectively. Now that I’ve stopped it, fixed all the unit metadata, and started it again… no item state changes are appearing in the log. I think they’re still being updated - at least, looking at grafana they still seem to be being persisted - but I can’t see anything about it happening.

I’ve checked log:get, and although it shows openhab.event.ItemStateChangedEvent as INFO level (after I manually added it - it wasn’t listed at all previously, but openhab.event was always there and showing INFO as well)… well, there’s just none of them showing up in the log.

Probably what I’ll do is strip all the previously-unnecessary metadata out of the items files, shut it down, and downgrade to M2 again. M4 seems unhealthy, and I need the system to run. If anyone has thoughts as to why the new item metadata should have broken the logging of item events.
