Openhab as a bridge or as a central control system

Hello,
I’m new to openhab and ask you for advice on setup.
According to you it is preferable to use openhab only as a bridge (for example between the control system of lights and amazon alexa) or use it as a true central control system?

Example 1

  • (Bridge) buy a complete light control system and use openhab as a bridge between it and amazon alexa
  • (central unit) buy switches and lights that can communicate with openhab (konnex) and via a usb / konnex module control the lights via openhab

Example 2

  • (Bridge) buy a complete alarm system, complete with control unit and screen and use openhab as a bridge between it and amazon alexa
  • (central unit) buy sensors that can be controlled by openhab and define zones and alarms inside openhab

Which is, according to you, the best setup?

OH is meant to be THE (only) control system. It can in turn control other (sub)systems such as Hue bridge with the devices that are attached there, or various others if needed.
Please read a bit further into the docs.
