OpenHABIAN "Booting for the first time!" repeats at each boot

I’m new to openhab and need some advice on my OpenHABIAN installation. I’m running it on a RPI3-B, 16GB card, and the OH2 distribution I downloaded this week.

The initial OH2 installation appears to be incomplete. However, I am able to web browse the various UI’s, so OH2 is running. However, at each boot the system thinks it is a first time boot (“Booting for the first time!” log message repeats each time). Long story short, the OH2 system updates/upgrades at reboot.

Here are the last two boot related entries from today (from first-boot.log):

I don’t know if the failed cloning is a symptom or the cause. In my searching about this warning message I found that it could be related to the SD card size. But I have tried several (8GB, 16GB, and 64GB). Still no joy.

I’m lost on what is wrong; I need advice on how to fix my “first boot” issue.

I was able to solve the problem after starting with a fresh download & re-install. Plus one other thing …

I noticed that the RP3’s power light (red LED) would occasionally blink. Whenever it blinked a lightning bolt would appear on the HDMI monitor. I goggled for info and found that this is a new power brownout (under voltage) warning feature that was added to the RP3.

My 3A USB power brick provides a steady 5.0V, but the USB cable’s voltage drop was too high. Voltage delivered to the RP3 would randomly drop as low as 4.6V, which triggered the brownout warning. A very short USB cable solved it – now the voltage is 4.9V.

I don’t know which of these things fixed it for me. I want to say it was the fresh download, but the power issue is suspect too.

But this fix did not contribute to solving a more important problem. I can’t get the InsteonPLM to binding to work with my hub. No doubt I’ll be posting another please-help-me request soon!

thanks

If you have solved the problem please help me.

Please see my previous post that explains what I did to fix this issue on my installation.

Mine does this as well, and I fixed it not by going through the entire install process again, but by commenting out all the lines of code other than “exit 0” in the file “/etc/rc.local”.

Cheers!

Edit: I should say that I tried creating the file /opt/afterfirstboot.lock with the contents “[openHABian] Created after first boot script succeeded (see /etc/rc.local). Do not delete.”, did resolve the issue after I also deleted the watch command from my .bash_profile.

Hi Suds,

sorry i cannot understand your explanation. Even i am stuck in the Cloaning Myself failed, Intital setup existing with an error. Can you tell me what should i do to resolve this. or can you help me on this. I am using Raspberry pi3 + installed openhabian2 in this 16 gb sdcard

My advice:

  1. Create a fresh installation on the SD card (do not re-use the failed installation attempt).

  2. Use a short length USB cable on your 5.0V 3Amp wall wart power supply. A 2-foot long micro USB cable worked well for me; My longer length USB cables had too much voltage drop.

  3. During the ENTIRE installation carefully watch the PI3’s Red Power LED. It should be continuously on. If you see it randomly blink, or if the Red LED turns off, then you have a 5V power issue (voltage unstable) that is probably corrupting the installation build.

Note: AFAIK, the PI3 is the only hardware version that reports power problems using the Red LED. So you can’t use the Red LED to see power issues if you are using a different PI model.

Thomas

Create a fresh installation on the SD card (do not re-use the failed installation attempt) : this helps and solve my issue. But my wifi in openhab2 is not detecting my SSID and password

I’ve got the same issue as well…
Has anyone figured out a solution yet?

HELP!

I have a RPI2 B with openHABian 1.4, but i get the error " Cloning Myself: FAILED"

I have tried multiple (good quality) power bricks and cables but nothing works, i have used 4 different brands and types of Micro-SD cards (Samsung, Kingston, SanDisk & Sony) which i checked at: https://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards

I have done multiple re-installs on different SD’s and i also tried openHABian 1.3

I just can’t get this to work, and it’s my last project to finish my exam, so i need this to work ASAP!

So you have a note with the following code: #!/bin/sh -e## exit 0

And how can i put those files onto openHABian?

Did you add wif i to the openhabian.conf file?
