I’m happy to report that after uninstalling the Philips binding, reinstalling OpenHAB, and placing the JAR file in the addons folder, the error messages have stopped appearing.

Philips Air binding – new test version (OH 5.2.1): AC3210/AC0950 control, device profiles and more reliability

Thanks for the feedback so far, especially the debug logs. They were the key to this version. A new test build is available.

What’s new

• AC3210/12 (thanks @ollo): the Error and Air Quality Threshold channels no longer stay NULL. Mode, fan speed and timer can now be read and controlled as well.
• Device profiles: recent models encode their settings differently, so the binding now uses a profile per model. It is detected from the model the device reports and shown as thing property deviceProfile. Profiles so far:
  • unicorn: AC2210, AC2220, AC2221, AC3210, AC3220, AC3221, AC4220, AC4221
  • ac0950: AC0950 and AC0951, the small variant of that range. It has no humidity or temperature sensor, no lamp and no allergy sleep, and its display brightness has no auto setting. thanks @Mclupo fir the earlier log. This build should improve for you.
  • ac3737: AC3737
  • ac1715 and ac0850: AC1715 and AC0850 with the older D03-xx field names
  • basic: all other recent models (sensors, power, child lock)
• Pick your own profile: if your model is not detected, you can choose the profile of a similar model under the advanced thing configuration deviceProfile. Your device is then controlled like that model, without waiting for a new binding version. Select basic again if the device doesn’t behave.
• More channels, added automatically when your device reports them: mode and fan speed, timer and remaining time, humidity setpoint, gas level, air quality threshold, displayed index, display brightness, lamp mode, beep, sensors in standby, allergy sleep and display on/off. The README lists which profile supports what.
• Profile survives a restart: the detected profile is stored as thing properties (deviceProfile, deviceProfileHost) and used until the device reports its status. Commands right after a restart therefore use the correct field names. A command that the profile cannot express, or that the device rejects, is now logged as a warning, so please look for those in openhab.log.
• Reliability:
  • CoAP devices in standby stay online as long as they answer the connection check.
  • Fixed several race conditions around restarting or disposing a thing, so late results of an old run no longer overwrite the new state.
  • Fixed a problem where the CoAP subscription was not continued correctly.
  • HTTP devices renew their key only once per failed request, keep the stored key during the 429 cool-down, and discovery no longer chokes on devices without an identifier.

Installing

• kar: put it in addons/. It only contains the binding jar and a features file, and Karaf pulls in the CoAP and UPnP transports itself.
• jar: put it in addons/ and install the transports once in the Karaf console: feature:install openhab-transport-coap openhab-transport-upnp
• When switching between kar and jar, or to this build: remove the old file from addons/ and any leftover userdata/tmp/kar/org.openhab.binding.philipsair-* folder first.
• Coming from the old binding version: thing types, channel IDs and item links changed. Remove the old thing and discover it again.

@dpa-openhab: the kar is no longer the big hand-built one. It is now only the jar plus a features file, and the manifest is minimal. As far as I can see in the Karaf source (Kar.java), the manifest is optional, so a kar works with or without it. It would be great if you could confirm it installs for you.

Please test (and report back)

• The control commands follow the Philips app and the Home Assistant integration, and have not been confirmed on a real device yet. Please change one setting at a time.
• @ollo (AC3210/12): please try power, mode (auto / sleep), fan speed 1–5, medium and turbo, the timer, the air quality threshold, the displayed index, and the extra channels (display brightness, lamp mode, beep, …).
• Owners of an AC0950/AC0951 (e.g. @Mclupo), AC3737, AC1715 or AC0850: the profile is picked automatically. Owners of other recent models: try the profile of the closest model.
• For each thing you try, please post:
  • the model number and the deviceProfile property
  • any warnings in openhab.log
  • the debug log lines Sending command … and the next Status from … after each change (log:set DEBUG org.openhab.binding.philipsair)
  • what the Philips app shows for the same setting

The binding is being prepared for inclusion in openHAB (PR work in progress). With positive feedback I’ll submit it for review.

@Mclupo Thanks for the log, that helps a lot. I was just finished with the update, so did not add the insight from your AC2939 yet.

AC2939 (Wohnzimmer)

Your AC2939/10 is discovered and connects fine. What is missing are the modes of this model: it reports "mode":"AG", which the binding does not know yet, so the mode channel shows no proper label and offers modes your device may not have.

To add them I need to know which codes your device uses for each mode. Could you do the following?

1. Enable debug logging in the openHAB console:

   log:set DEBUG org.openhab.binding.philipsair
   

2. Using the Philips app or the buttons on the device (not openHAB), switch through every mode the device has, one at a time: Auto, Sleep, Gentle, Turbo, and any others you see. Wait about 10 seconds between each change.

3. Do the same for every fan speed, if the device lets you set one manually.

4. Write down the order and the name of each mode as the app shows it.

5. Post the Status from 192.168.1.75: {...} lines from the log together with that list.

Afterwards you can switch the logging back:

log:set INFO org.openhab.binding.philipsair

I am mainly looking at the mode and om values in each status line, so one line per mode or speed is enough.

AC0950 (Schlafzimmer)

Your log shows Command '{"mode":"S"}' is not supported by 192.168.1.76. The build you are running does not have the mode support for the AC0950 yet. A newer build adds a profile for the AC0950/AC0951 with mode, fan speed, timer, beep and display brightness.

Please install this build and test again:

After installing, check that the thing property deviceProfile shows ac0950, and try setting the mode and fan speed from openHAB. If something does not work, please post the debug log of that attempt.

Installing

1. Uninstall the Philips Air binding if you installed it from the add-on store, or remove the old .jar / .kar from your addons folder.

2. Copy org.openhab.binding.philipsair-5.3.0-SNAPSHOT.jar into the addons folder.

3. Wait a minute or two for it to load. Your existing things can stay as they are.

The build is made for openHAB 5.3 (snapshot). Let me know which openHAB version you run if it does not load.

Testing the AC2939 (Wohnzimmer)

1. Enable debug logging:

   log:set DEBUG org.openhab.binding.philipsair

2. Open the thing and check that the property deviceProfile shows AC2939.

3. Check that the mode channel now offers Auto, Gentle, Sleep and Turbo, and that it shows the right mode when you change it in the Philips app.

4. Now set each of the four modes from openHAB and check that the device follows.

5. Check that power and child lock still work from openHAB.

One known limitation: your device picks the fan speed itself per mode, so the `fan-speed` channel only shows the speed. Setting it from openHAB will probably do nothing.

Testing the AC0950 (Schlafzimmer)

1. Check that the property deviceProfile shows AC0950.

2. Set the mode (Auto, Sleep) and a fan speed from openHAB and check that the device follows.

3. If your device has them, try the timer, beep and display brightness channels as well.

What to report back

• Which of the steps above worked and which did not.

• For anything that did not work: the debug log lines from that attempt, especially the Sending command ... line and the Status from ... line that follows it.

the kar is no longer the big hand-built one. It is now only the jar plus a features file, and the manifest is minimal. As far as I can see in the Karaf source (Kar.java), the manifest is optional, so a kar works with or without it. It would be great if you could confirm it installs for you.

and put the file under /usr/share/openhab/addons/ the binding is installed and I can add things. So META-INF/MANIFEST.MF can be removed.

What changed for the AC0950

• The mode channel now offers Auto, Sleep, Gentle and Turbo, like the Philips app.
• The fan-speed channel only shows the speed the device picked for the mode (1 in Auto and Sleep, 2 in Gentle, t in Turbo). Setting it from openHAB does nothing, as this model has no manual speeds.

Installing

1. Remove the previous org.openhab.binding.philipsair-5.3.0-SNAPSHOT.jar from the addons folder.
2. Copy the new jar into the addons folder and wait a minute or two. Your things can stay as they are.

Testing the AC0950 (Schlafzimmer)

1. Enable debug logging:

   log:set DEBUG org.openhab.binding.philipsair
   

2. Check that the mode channel offers Auto, Sleep, Gentle and Turbo. If it still shows only Auto and Sleep, disable and enable the thing once.

3. Change the mode in the Philips app and check that mode and fan-speed in openHAB follow for all four modes.

4. Set each of the four modes from openHAB and check that the device follows. Gentle and Turbo are the ones I could not verify, your log only had Auto and Sleep sent from openHAB.

5. A quick check that power, child lock and the AC2939 still work as before.

What to report back

• Which of the four modes worked from openHAB and which did not.
• For anything that did not work: the Sending command ... line and the Status from ... lines that follow it.

Afterwards you can switch the logging back:

Perhaps I should install version 5.3.0-snapshot instead of OH 5.3.0.M1. 5.3.0.M1 has Gson 2.13.2, but the new version of the Philips Air binding requires Gson 2.14.0.

I don’t really control these dependencies, the binding indeed is using the one provided by the OH framework.

I setup some automated build, that at least always builds the latest jar & kars based on both the openhab release and the openhab snapshot. This way I hope it is easier for everyone to find a version that works for their installation. Links are in the first post.
