I wanted to thanks you for bringing the Playbulb Candles to my attention through your post. I ordered some and really like them as additional mood lights in my rooms. I’m running openHAB on a Raspberry Pi and it was easy to incorporate the Playbulb Candles into openHAB with the link you provided and also
I’m using gatttool on the Raspberry and the exec binding to send commands like
gatttool -b AC:E6:4B:06:2C:55 --char-write -a 0x0016 -n 0000ff00
to control the candles.
Unfortunately I don’t know the according macOS utility/commands for sending these, but it should be possible.

I’m one of the maintainers of the above mentioned Github repo.
Currently using the Candle and Rainbow from Playbulb.
I will try to make this into a OH binding, but I have never done this before.
