playSound and USB sound adapter

Hello all!

I’ve recently migrated my system from a pi over to a NUC DCCP847DYE running Ubuntu server 16.04. I didn’t realize there wasn’t a 3.5 output until I got everything set up so I am using this USB sound adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00. I’m running openHAB 1.8.3.

I have the audio working from the command line using mpg123, both directly from the command line and triggering it from openHAB, but playSound and playStream do not work. I see no errors in the log either and I don’t even know what direction I should be going in to troubleshoot this. openHAB is in the audio group. The only thing I can think of is maybe the USB sound adapter is throwing it off?

Any ideas?

did you add the openhab user to the audio group?

adduser openhab audio

Yes. That was the one thing I knew to check! Sadly it isn’t that easy…
