After I changed one of my graphs on my APP to real time update, I started noticing this problem.

I can only assume this was the problem since I haven’t done anything else and everything was running smoothly.

Can this be the cause for the OutOfMemoryError?

Here’s the openhab.log file content after crash:

Also, I want to make a suggestion (I know, this is not the right place but I will do it in the right place as well).

Each time we load the APP we have to wait for the screen to refresh, even with LAN, sometimes it takes some seconds and it’s frustrating that each time we need to wait for the screen to appear.

It would be nice to have this working assyncronous, so end-user wouldn’t notice that loading and server communication/waiting time.

If eventually a server communication error occours, in that case makes sense to show some error message, otherwise we would just navigate on the APP and set whatever we wanted.

Also, another thing is that we should be able to easily edit a text or number field. There should be a module for that, as that’s very interesting to edit, for instance, messages that goes to Alexa/Google Home.

I have some different messages setup such as a welcome message whenever someone opens and enters the front door, a message whenever the postman leaves mail in the mailbox, etc.

It would be nice to easily change messages inside the APP. I know there are HTML codes to do that, but I would prefer something more integrated.

Also, another suggestion is regarding sets of buttons. It would be nice to have a module that would allow us to create a multiple set of buttons. I have a IR Remote and basically I would like to have a single module with the multiple remote buttons there, not having to setup an individual ON/OFF Switch for each button.

And that’s it!

Out of the blue
Same problem on my site.
Yesterday I did a update with the openhabian-config tool.
Today I looked at the logfile because of unexpected behavior of the astro-binding.
Suddenly, while looking at the log I got the same messages.
All investigation ended now with a total crash.
Last message I can deliver is from the command line while trying to stop openhab:

in the logs it started with

Recommend you stop using the embedded mqtt broker and install mosquito instead. Openhabian can setup mosquito for you.

If you have the Amazon Echo binding, there is a memory leak in it, see Web Socket Error on AmazonEchoControl binding every 65 seconds

@BigMountainSki Sorry to read that. :frowning:

I did updated and upgraded, but via apt-get and all went well. Now running 2.5.5 but memory leak problem still persists and I actually noticed maybe it all starts with Amazon binding.

@matt1 I never had problems with MQTT and I’m affraid that if I do that, I would have to setup ALL my MQTT bindings again and I have a lot of devices communicating with my server via MQTT and with different setups (JSON formats and so on). It would be a nightmare to setup all this again, one by one.

@berland So I’m definitely not alone here, which is for me some relief. Now I will probably wait some more time until this problem is solved.

So this means my first conclusion was wrong. This had nothing to do with that real time option on my graphs in APP.

PS: @namraccr Thank you for changing the topic title, that actually makes more sense and it’s hilarious.

EDIT: I just unnistalled Amazon binding and CPU usage on my Pi went from 20-30% to 0-3%… what a difference! Even the APP is now working very fast. WOW!

Sad to say the embedded broker is not maintained and not recommended to be used so whilst it may not be the cause of your isssue I would like to make u aware of that.

It should not be hard but I recommend you learn about backups and how to clone your setup onto a second uSD drive. If you have a decent working backup then having a play should be zero risk and a good learning experience xperience to prepare for the day when you will need to use a backup.

Well it seems something is still not right here, even after unnistalling Amazon Binding:
