I think the reason is that there is no entry in the ZWave database for this device :frowning:
So the xml - file in etc/zwave is missing.

Any ideas?

Why do you think this device isn’t listed in the DB? Isn’t it this device:

http://cd-jackson.com/index.php/zwave/zwave-device-database/zwave-device-list/devicesummary/372

The XML file is created even if the device isn’t yet in the DB. With this file it can be integrated easier then.

As you found out yourself, the initialisation hasn’t yet completed. That’s the reason why the XML wasn’t yet created. You have to wake up the device manually (probably several times) to get the initialisation completed.

It looks like the device has either not woken up, or it is not communicating with the controller as I don’t think there is any messages from the device in this log.

When posting logs, please format using the </> button (ie highlight the text and press this button). This will present the log in a much better format that can then be read easily, and also cut and pasted into the log viewer… When logs are pasted as a quote, all lines end up with a > on the front

Hi Stefan, hi Chris,

thank you both - the problem was, that the device wasn´t correctly included. Is was my fault to think, tha the database entry must be there (locally on my Pi) bevore including the device.
After 5-10 tries the first thermostatic valve was included and marked with a green dot and the correkt name in habmin

My second valve does not include :frowning:

@Chris Thx for the tip for posting logs - i try it next time.

Althought the device is recognized, I still get the error (node 11):

2016-10-05 16:10:46.244 [DEBUG] [WaveController$ZWaveSendThread:1327]- NODE 6: Response processed after 52ms/4434ms.

Any ideas?

And the question: How can i set the WAKE_UP - Time. the Configuration parameters are not availible in the habmin node.

Really? It would be quite strange for the device to be recognised, but say there’s no database entry…

This is because the device is not in the database I guess - as per the message in the log.

I’m guessing you’re using OH1, but I’m not 100% sure? If so, I don’t think your device is in the database at the moment - only the StellaZ is in the database.

First: I´m using OH1

I reconstructed the hole story:

After including my Node 11 correctly everything worked fine this morning. I got a valid values for battery and THERMOSTAT_MODE (not for temperatur).

Then i tried once mor to include my second valve. This didn´t work with habmin. I decided to shutdown Openhab and added the 2nd directly to the Aeotec Z Stick… With this result:

-

since then i get no data from node 11 - ONLY the error that it is not found in the database. And Node 12 doesn´t work at all. :confounded:

You are right: This is what it found: Only StellaZ is in the database. Should i add the CometZ?

No - it’s ok, I’ll do it shortly.

Since these are battery devices, they will take time to initialise. You will need to wake them up manually to get the initialisation complete - there’s normally a button on the top/side that does this but it should say in the manual.

This would be great!
I have found the following behavior:

A new included CometZ device works properly (if it is correctly included) until there is a change in the configuration.
Then the error “No database …” occurs:

2016-10-05 19:00:10.932 [DEBUG] [WaveController$ZWaveSendThread:1327]- NODE 6: Response processed after 52ms/4885ms.
2016-10-05 19:00:13.425 [DEBUG] [.z.i.config.ZWaveConfiguration:276 ]- NODE 11: No database entry: EUROtronic Technology [ID:1,Type:2]
2016-10-05 19:00:13.426 [DEBUG] [.z.i.config.ZWaveConfiguration:276 ]- NODE 12: No database entry: EUROtronic Technology [ID:1,Type:2]
2016-10-05 19:00:15.828 [DEBUG] [.o.b.z.i.c.ZWaveMeterConverter:68 ]- NODE 9: Generating poll message for METER, endpoint 0

I have not figured out what change is the reason.
Does it make sense?

I’m not sure if it makes too much sense. The device is definately not in the database, so this message is expected. The other point to note is that with OH1, if a device isn’t in the database, it can still be used - it just won’t have the right name in HABmin.

Let’s update the database so that’s sorted and then let’s see where we are then - it might help the wakeup option show up (I forget what triggers that now in OH1).

Hi Chris,

i recognized that the error “No database entry…” comes from habmin! The error occurs only when the habmin is connected.
So you are right - openhab runs without the database entry !!!

So my problem reduces to the point that the device doesn´t wake up.
All messages to the device are put in the wakeup queue with the message:
“Message already on the wake-up queue. Removing original.”

This could be an initialisation problem.

No - this message comes from the binding - not HABmin. It means that the binding can’t find any information in the database about the device. This is however mostly used in the UI - the binding does use the database for configuring certain elements of the device though.

You need to wake up the device. If the device isn’t waking up, then it will not configure - ever. You must wake the device up manually, and it must be within range of the controller - it won’t route via other devices until it is configured. You need to check the manual on how to do this - normally there’s a button that you can press - sometimes it needs to be pressed 3 times in 1 second or something similar.

I just bought one of these comet thermostats…

There is a micro button inside the device. It only seems to have 2 functions

Click once = device sends NIF

Hold 5 seconds = go in exclusion mode

I waited for many hours but still the device is not initalized yet … and still sits as Node22 in my inbox

not sure if the NIF is enough or wakeup is different?

seems to be another tricky device to get working

since I can see the NIF in debug log … that means the device is communicating directly via the controller?
as chris said:

Hmmmm… NIF and Wakeup are two different notifications…

So, here’s the story. In the past I treated a NIF as a wakeup, but recently I removed this as it was causing problems with some devices that don’t assume this. Some devices were sending the NIF, which the binding then treated as a wakeup so sent data to the device. The device wasn’t awake, so these messages timed out and the device went back to sleep!

So, I removed this, and wondered how long it would be before someone came up with the opposite problem… Does the manual of this device say anything about sending wakeup, or only NIF?

Yes, that’s correct - the NIF is not routed.

the manual actually says nothing at all: https://www.eurotronic.org/fileadmin/user_upload/eurotronic.org/Download-BAL-WB/Comet-Z-wave/Comet-zwave-BDA_eng.pdf

I googled a bit and tested some stuff on my own and the result is that the button of the device seems to have only
the above 2 options

the NIF I found out just by trying. anything else (triple click e.g.) does not do anything.

I use OH2 - and other to OH1 the device can not be used until it was configured fully once.

if it needs “some” wakeups until the configuration is completed and I can not force manually a wakeup … this might be difficult … and might take looooooooooooooooooooooooong

edit: i found in another forum the default wakeup is 7 days for that device… :frowning:

@chris edit2: is it possible that I use a manual .thing file only for this device? get it working that way and set a way shorter wakeup interval … then delete the manual thing file again and get it configured in habmin …?

You can’t change the configuration of a device through the thing file.

I will add the use of a NIF as wakeup back into the binding since it seems to be used by more devices than it upsets and I’ll think of another way to manage the wakeup issue…

:heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

thanks !

Hello,
I also tried to setup the Thermostatic Valve from EUROtronic (I’m an openhab2 newbie) and I also got the “missing in database” error. Hours later I saw in HABmin, that the wakeup interval is set to zero. Doesn’t that mean that a wakeup will never happen?

I think we should focus on one thing at a time. If the device is not known, then the wakeup interval is unlikely to be known, so the 0 is probably incorrect.

Hi Chris,
is there anything I can do to get it running?
