PSA - avoid zwave 700 series usb controllers (for now)

Hi OH community, just wanted to leave this message here in hopes of saving headache for others.

I tried using a 700 series controller recently in testing with zwavejs2mqtt and PC controller and ran into some fairly serious problems rendering the stick inoperable. Issues included:

  • Flooded zwave network leading to slow/unresponsive performance
  • Lost nodes
  • Inability to update firmware (light switches) from PC controller

This was based on a zooz ZST10 700, but according to information online, many people with 700 series controllers from any manufacturer are reporting similar problems:

Until silabs can sort out the firmware on their new stick, it’s probably best to avoid 700 series controllers for now (Jan 2022)
