I am having a play with OPenHAB on my QNap NAS. I noticed that the link to the .qpkg is version 2.2.0-1. Which over 12 months old.
Does this mean, by using the QNAP I am restricted to using this older version? I am sure I will be missing out on some features

Pretty much, yes. Not so much features lacking, more so bug fixes.
Consider moving your installation to an Rpi or PC or similar, and leave the NAS to doing what it’s designed for (network storage) - such as hosting backups of OpenHAB
