Range presence detection

This will be nice for presence detection.

Looks interesting. However I hope it doesn’t only work with IFTTT as I have found it wholly unreliable for near instantaneous interaction with my devices.

I also get the feeling that with a Pi and some scripts you could poll for BLE and WiFi connections. Then output this info via POST to the openHAB REST api so a rule can determine presence. It’s not as slick, but probably cheaper… not that we know what it will cost.

Something like this perhaps

Yep, just like that, heh.

Guys at the end we always came up with the same problem. The system is detecting one of my devices and not me.

Maybe another device to use is the puck.js

I have asked them if they will have an API.

The Range product seems to handle more.
So a binding for this should solve most of our problems.

I am missing wifi awareness in puck.js but it can do more other things than Range.

Respons from Range:

Hi Michael,

Thanks for reaching out. A public facing API is very much on our roadmap and we do plan to have that available well before Range begins shipping to our first backers. Let me know if you need any more specifics.

Best,

Robert
