Rearrange Channel list in thing setting

I’d like to re-arrange the channel list

what I did : stopped OH , opened file “org.openhab.core.thing.Thing.json” and moved an object to a different position,
after restart of OH,I got the same sequence of channels in the list, I think, OH used the backup file.

Is there any documentation whether the procedure is wrong or what to do.

Don’t know what I did wrong in the first trail, but I works perfectly
