I am trying execute a very simple rule and i keep getting the error below, can someone point me in the correct direction on why this would be happening.

The item:

Switch Doorbell “Doorbell” (Outside)
DateTime Last_Doorbell_Press “Doorbell last pressed [%1$ta %1$tR]” (Outside)

The rule:

rule "Doorbell last pressed time"
when
Item Doorbell received update
then
postUpdate(Last_Doorbell_Press, new DateTimeType())
end

Every time i get the blow up below:

2016-09-28 09:54:14.672 [ERROR] [o.o.c.s.ScriptExecutionThread ] - Error during the execution of rule 'Doorbell last pressed time’

(Andreas Imhof) #2

Try Last_Doorbell_Press.postUpdate(new DateTimeType()) instead

Andreas

(James Hiscott) #3

Hi @imhofa, thanks for the speedy response, i tried that (just tired again as well), same blow up in the logs.

(Hans-Jörg Merk) #4

You are missing the “when” part of DateTimeType(), so what about

postUpdate(Last_Doorbell_Press, new DateTimeType(now))

(James Hiscott) #5

@hmerk thanks, tried that, but still the same problem. I am using openhab 1.8 with no database is this something that only works with the persistence stuff?

Was trying to do some simple… very confsued as i have found other people with examples that are the same and say it works.

( ) #6

One step further, how about now? :slight_smile:
new DateTimeType(now.toCalendar(null))

(James Hiscott) #7

@ThomDietrich nope still the same… something wrong with my install or Java?

Something seems completely off with your system. Please have a look at this example, it contains the thing you are trying to do right at the beginning of the rule and is working. Maybe you could try this one with your setup?

Can you tell us more about your system? Is this your first rule or do you have a big setup working fine? Maybe the file is wrongly formated? Could you try building your rule anew?

(James Hiscott) #9

Oh my… feel a bit silly now! All i needed was:

At the top!!! Thanks @ThomDietrich

Is there a wiki page with all the imports you can add that do helpful things?

( ) #10

Hahaha oh no :slight_smile:
There is no complete list somewhere as far as I know. I however seized the moment and took a personal note, that a documentation should exist for rule possibilities. Hopefully soon.
