Hi Everyone, I am Soumitra Dutta an entrepreneur & photographer from Oxford. I’m just getting started with openHAB and I’m trying to do my first setup. I’ve installed it, but I’m not sure what the best next steps are. Has anyone got advice or a simple checklist for getting started the right way?

Have you gone through the Getting Started Tutorial in the main docs? That walks you through all the steps necessary to get get OH up and running. Not all parts of that tutorial will be relevant to you right now but without knowing the hardware and what you are tyring to accomplish we cannot tell you what parts will be relevant.
You will have to look at what you have and what you want to accomplish and follow the relevant parts of the page. For example, look at the binding for what ever technology you want to use with OH. In the readme does it look like a Simple Thing where everything is just discovered automatically without any configuration on your part, an Intermediate Thing where you have to manually create a “bridge” to connect to a USB dongle or enter account information before your devices are automatically discovered, or an Advanced Thing where you have to manually configure the Thing for each device?
Then you’ll set up your Items.
Then you need to figure out what you want to do with them? Do you want some automation? How do you want to present the devices to your users? That’s what the rest of the tutorial goes over.
Getting Started is like a user’s guide and the rest of the docs are the reference. So all the little details will be in the reference but the overall flow is in Getting Started.
