In the UI, for the Auto Update metadata, it has “Force auto-update” with a Dash, I assume this means it is not definitively set
Really it has three states. “Default” or “not set” is distinct from both disabled and forced. Default is effectively enabled in most cases. If you wish to disable, you must disable (each Item).

Overview
Autoupdate is primarily a “speed up” feature for openHAB Items. Mostly we can ignore it, but sometimes you may get an unwanted or unexpected effect, or you may wish to exercise more control.
