Openhab 5.2.1

Happened to launch openhabian-config but stuck at prompt.
Probably happens since 5.2.1.

Any help appreciated.

ran into something like this on openHABian too. that “Username for [https://github.com](https://github.com)” usually means the git fetch for the openHAB branch is getting auth-challenged (rate limit / credential helper / remote url flipped) and openhabian-config just hangs waiting on stdin.

what worked for me once was ctrl-c out of it, then as root:
`cd /opt/openhabian && git remote -v && git status`
if origin is [GitHub - openhab/openhabian: openHABian - empowering the smart home, for Raspberry Pi and Debian systems · GitHub](https://github.com/openhab/openhabian.git) try a plain fetch:
`GIT_TERMINAL_PROMPT=0 git fetch --dry-run origin`
if that also asks for a user, set the remote to the public https url again or temporarily skip the branch check. sometimes just waiting a bit and retrying clears a github anon rate limit.

not 100% sure its the same on 5.2.1 but the stuck prompt is almost always that git step, not your openhab runtime.

Hi,

i am not using Openhab, but i wanted to mention that there is apparently some server wide issues from Github that require authentication.

Happend also for TrueNas or Pihole:

or Truenas:

Workarounds are there, but just wanted to mention it here.

sudo openhabian-config still stuck at username prompt today.

I also have PiHole and Hagezi blocklists are not accessible anymore from [https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hagezi](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hagezi) .
I had to use [Gerd / mirror · GitLab](https://gitlab.com/hagezi/mirror) as per some forums.

But the ‘standard’ blocklist seems to be still accessible !
[https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts)

I have no real idea why GitHub sometimes is and sometimes is not available.
And no idea what to do.

Anyone better than me (not very difficult) ?

If openhabian-config continues fails I will start a fresh install, but this will not solve or explain the problem.

If you want a “fix”; run this

```auto
git config --system http.version HTTP/1.1
```

this forces git to use the old http protocol, which somehow goes around the blockage of the authentication. Make a check before how your git is configured so you can revert it back to the original state.

Well, I’m no dev, just an OpenHAB user.

I don’t directly use Github.
PiHole does, OpenHAB does, but not me, and my knowledge is quite limited.

And as Github config is done by OpenHAB, I’m a bit surprised to see ni other OH user having the same problem.

So, I configured nothing and I have no idea how and what to do.

I will try you magic spell later.

Thank you very much.

I have two openhab installations, both run version 5.2.1. When I input `sudo openhabian-conifg` one installation worked normal (without asking for github username, the other installation aksed.

I aborted with `ctrl-c` and tried again a couple if minutes later. The second try also github username was asked for. But on the third try (wihout changing anything) it suddenly run without asking.

So i suggest just try again, it may ask again but suddenly it will work 😁

Just tried, and openhabian-config runs as normally as usual.
Just as if I had dreamt it all !

GitHub is no technology, but but craftman’s art 😂.

Thank you all and sorry for the inconvenience.
