Testing a binding update on a productive system

Hello,
I want to check my addon update on my productive system. Therefore I placed it in the folder /usr/share/openhab2/addons

add a thing file but nothing happend?

what is wrong?

I am on openhab2.5.9 and the addon is called 3.0 is this an issue?

But there are some changes that cause bindings compiled for 2.5 not work for 3.0 and the other way around. So you need to make some changes to make your binding compile and run on openHAB 3.

Where:

some changes

Means the package namespace of openhab-core has been changed from org.eclipse.smarthome to org.openhab. which makes bindings incompatible at runtime.
