Testing an Android wall panel app with the Home Assistant binding – feedback from openHAB users welcome

Hi everyone! I’m Armando, a solo developer from Mexico. I’m building DoLu Panel, a free Android app that turns a spare tablet or phone into a wall panel, and I’m getting ready to publish it on Google Play.

It started with Home Assistant, and I’m now adding openHAB support. That’s where I need you.

What it does:

  • Shows your dashboard full screen (HABPanel or Main UI)
  • Wakes up when you walk up to it, and sleeps when nobody’s around
  • Connects directly over MQTT, and announces itself with Home Assistant-style MQTT discovery, so the openHAB Home Assistant binding should pick it up as a Thing automatically
  • Lets your rules control brightness, volume and the screen

Being honest: openHAB support is new and hasn’t been tested with real users yet. Some things may not work on the first try, and finding them is exactly the point.

Why now: Google Play requires a closed test before launch, so I’m looking for testers for 14 days, starting November 2.

What you need:

  • openHAB (ideally 5.x) with an MQTT broker, like Mosquitto
  • An Android phone or tablet with Google Play

Sign up (until October 23): DoLu Panel — Inscripción de probadores / Tester sign-up

The app is free, with no ads and no account required. I’ll keep this thread updated, and I’m happy to answer questions here!

Huh.. stupid question but does it have to be a tablet?
