As the discussions are now rather mixing different topics here, I would like to close this topic and started 3 separate ones in its place - so feel free to follow up on these:
My main point about the post Future of openHAB was that I wish we could grow the number of people helping maintaining the project.
Since my post nothing actually happened: We still have 450 (!!!) open issues and 70 open pull requests on openHAB 1.
In this topic I would like to discuss how we can manage to get these numbers down - we need definitions on how people can qualify for becoming a maintainer, we need some clear rules written down and most importantly, we need the people willing to do …
I’d like to split the discussion about repo structures and ranks for addons into its separate topic.
Let me re-emphasize my concerns: Not having any formal code reviews will deteriorate the code quality and stop the growing of the openHAB code base as addons will be all over the place, but not part of the project.
I’d therefore like to keep all “important” add-ons under a similar process as today (but hopefully with more active maintainers), while having half-finished stuff and things for smal…
There were a lot of opinions about whether a “gemeinnütziger e.V.” is a good organisational structure for the legal entity behind openHAB, so that I would like to split the discussion into its separate topic here.
