Use case: integrating an Ecowitt weather station with BTicino shutters plus controlling our humidifiers

After adding openHAB as integration platform to our aging BTicino home automation system, high on our wish list was adding a weather station and bringing up our BTicino-controlled shutters if winds get too strong.

We settled on Ecowitt for the weather station, which sells products produced by Fine Offset and supported by the Fine Offset Binding. The integration was actually quite easy, apart from some pitfalls with the configuration of the BTicino shutters in openHAB. In the end we also threw in some Shelly components to use the readings from the Ecowitt indoor gateway and some Shelly sensors to control our indoor humidifiers.
