(what should be a) Simple Switch question

Hi All!

I’m running Debian Jessie (fully up to date) + ‘stable’ openhab2 (from the official repository).

I am trying to create a ‘presence’ switch. Once I have it up and running I hope to be able to adjust it in a few ways (including using the rest api, so I can proximity trigger it with an app on my phone).

in my .items file I have this line:

Switch Presence

In my rules I have this:

rule "Motion Happened"
when
Item Sensor_Alarm changed from OFF to ON
then
Presence.sendCommand(ON)
end

The sensor trigger works (I wave my hand in front of it…) but I receive this error:

[ERROR] [.script.engine.ScriptExecutionThread] - Rule ‘Motion Happened’: An error occured during the script execution: The name ‘Presence’ cannot be resolved to an item or type.

I’ve tried defining the Switch Presence a few ways (and read over various examples online and in the forums). I feel i’m missing something REALLY obvious (maybe a typo or similar?)

I know that my items file is being read as the other items are picked up by the system.

Any guidance/help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
A

– Edit… found the problem -I believe something else above this item in the items file was creating problems. Sorry for the run around!
